Cheap LED Christmas Lights
I see this question come up a lot, where to find cheap LED lights for Christmas displays? As I have found out (and as this Planet Christmas forum thread points out), you really cannot find "cheap" LED lights. You can find LEDs that are on sale, sure, but you won't be seeing LEDs for $1 for 100 count lights like you do with regular Christmas lights.
How to Save on LED Christmas Lights
This is my simple method and you can agree/disagree all you want, but here is how I did it. I live near American Sales and they, like all other stores, start to discount their products on or just after Christmas. A few years back, I decided to take the LED plunge. My plan was to slowly phase out standard Christmas lights in favor of LEDs. I had no interest in completely replacing all my lights because that would be a pricey venture.
After Christmas, I went to American Sales and saw they discounted their LEDs. I focused on the most prominent part of my Christmas display and bought a few boxes of LED net lights to cover two large shrubs I have and then I bought 5 boxes of LED light strands (or enough to outline the front of my house and garage).
I gave the LEDs a whirl this year to see how I liked them. Being able to string multiple sets together, the general look they provide, and a minor dip in electricity savings (not all that much since such a small part of my display was LEDs). I liked the lights enough to move ahead with replacing more of my standard lights. So, just after Christmas, I found myself at American Sales buying up discounted LED lights.
Find LED Lights Elsewhere
I've tried Menards, Home Depot, and Lowes for discounted LED lights, but they seem to order in such limited quantities these days, that I could not get enough bang for my buck. And I have noticed that trying to match lights from different stores does not always work (Home Depot's white LED net lights look yellow when next to American Sales net lights). So buying in bulk at American Sales has suited me well. I also found some LED stars and other LED light items that accentuate the automated light display.
You can try to find deals online, and I am sure they are out there, but I also like to monitor Amazon (see how via another Griffith Santa post) for deals on an automated basis so I do not have to keep going back and checking the site.
